HOW TO PARAPHRASE

In making a thesis, plagiarism is prohibited because it is a crime. Thus, it has become the rule for all students to avoid plagiarism, including me and my friends. After I learned about how to avoid plagiarism and ensure that the our thesis are far from it, there is only one way that is a paraphrase. Paraphrase it is taking the idea of someone with our own language style. In fact, there are so many cases where someone takes the others ideas from various sources such as books, journals, and articles and then they claimed it was their own ideas. It is really not fair to the original author and it is same like a crime, isn’t it? okay, this time I would like to share a little about my understanding of EAP class to all of you about how to do the correct paraphrasing.

First, you should read the quote that you choose to paraphrased correctly and carefully. Then understand the purpose of the text in depth. It is important to remember, the long of quotations were not more than three sentences because it will be difficult for you to understand.

Second, when you read the text that you want to quote, you should make a note as a list of the main ideas of the quotation. It will allow you to understand what it means and you need not to read it for several times. After that, remove the text of the original quote and start to focus on your own writing with the previous idea.

Furthermore, the thing you have to do is write back all the ideas that you have understood in your own words. Not only by using a different words, you also have to write it down by using different language structures from the original one. This should be done to avoid plagiarism.

Last one, after you write all the ideas with your own words and with different language structures. Next, try to compare between the original quote with yours. If the ideas and language structure is very different, it means that you have to write it back. However, if the ideas same and the language structures are different it means you have been successful in paraphrased it.  

In conclusion, in English academic purpose class I learned a lot about how to do the correct paraphrasing. Doing paraphrase it is very important. If not, its mean we do plagiarism. So, if we want to take an idea from the writings of others, we have paraphrase it first.  Because the more honest you are in making your thesis, the more professional you look.
